One of the best whites I tried this past weekend at the DC Int'l Food and Wine Festival was a 2004 Tamar Ridge Riesling from Tasmania. It had a very indicative floral nose, along with apples, pears and minerals on the palate. The wine finished bone dry, and would be a perfect accompaniment to Easter ham, Thai curries, pork loin. And it would also be perfect on its own on the patio this spring or summer. Tasmania's cool climate keeps the wine's acidity high, resulting in an amazingly refreshing white.

Robert Whale showed this at our recent Australia/New Zealand Tasting - wow - everybody loved it!! Still, Germany has a whole bunch of great '05's, hopefully you'll get to them - Terry Theise is the man, he's based in DC!
