Apparently, the government of Georgia (the country, not the state...) offered Jennifer Lopez $500,000 to sign as part of a promotional event to rescue their flailing industry, and the pop star refused.
The Georgian wine industry is in trouble because back in March, Russia placed a ban on importing their wines, claiming the levels of pesticides in Georgian wines are too high for human consumption. Russia consumes 70% of Georgia's wines, so this embargo is potentially devastating to their wine economy.
Still, when I think of wine, (and Eastern Europe for that matter), J Lo hardly comes to mind. I hope Georgia can find a way to keep their wine industry afloat that doesn't involve cheesy pop songs from difficult divas.
